Carter
This boy is an absolute joy. He is so happy and playful. He is overflowing with personality. He just kills me. He loves to tease and make others laugh. He loves to play peek-a-boo and will do it for hours if someone is laughing with him. He makes friends wherever he goes, especially at the grocery store. He knows how to lay on the charm and everyone falls in love with his big blue eyes. The other day he had a grandma crying in tears and giving him kisses because she thought it was so adorable and it made her miss her own grandchildren. Total heartbreaker.
We finally have Carter's food intolerances/allergies figured out. Soy, dairy, gluten, peanuts, and eggs. What? Poor kid. No wonder he was so sick. Even when he was sick, he was still relatively happy. That is just Carter. He is such a delight. We are so glad we finally have his food stuff figured out. At his last appointment, he gained significant weight! We can attribute this sticking to his diet and letting him heal. He is slowly growing. He is now just below 2% in height. So sad. . . but we were way below the charts before so glad he is progressing. Cute little Carter bug.
He finally started walking! Hurray! We joked he would be crawling into nursery. . . and then that joke became a very real possibility. I think he started walking maybe a week or a few days before he went to nursery. Carter is silently stubborn and will definitely do things on his time table. He was more than capable of walking earlier, but he wasn't going to do it until he wanted to. Carter definitely knows what he wants. He still doesn't talk much, but understands very well. He will follow commands/instructions and will nod yes and no to questions. Carter is very expressive so it is usually really easy to tell how he is feeling or what he wants. Carter is the famous pointer. He points to where he wants to go and what he wants. He says, "hello" and "uh-oh."
Carter has a love for soft things. He has to have his special soft blanket and stuffed doggie to sleep with. He loves to cuddle and give hugs and kisses.
Carter's favorite toys are trucks, cars, blocks, and books.
Carter LOVES mangos. He seriously is obsessed. He is also obsessed with avocados. Bananas, strawberries, hummus, rice, bread, pancakes, peas, and oatmeal are his other favorites.
Carter loves music and gets excited when certain songs come on the radio. His personal favorite is the "clapping" song and excitedly claps along to all the right parts. We need to get this on video!
Carter loves Hunter and enjoys being with him. He loves our backyard. He loves to run around and hangout on the back porch. He likes to ride his bike and push his lawn mower. He enjoys digging in the dirt or sand with Hunter. Carter loves going for walks and being outside.
Carter reading with Grandpa Dave
Carter is a BIG eater. He may be small, but this kid can pound it. He LOVES food.
I was making homemade graham crackers. Carter was so mad when I had to put them in the oven. . . I told you his love for food is real.
This is how happy he was when he finally got to eat them :)
I just love this picture of Carter from Cayden's wedding.
Seriously... all my picture of Carter are of him eating. I promise we do other things! ;) hah.
Lately Carter has demanded that he wear Dad's work gloves at all times when being outside. Cracks me up.
Carter started walking the beginning of February. We got this clip of him after a few of his "tries." We got so excited he could barely stand up towards the end.
Carter loves to tease. He was doing this for about 10 minutes before we thought to get a video of it. I love Carter's laugh. I wish we would have gotten it at the beginning, but here it is.
Why is playing in Otie's kennel so appealing? I have no idea, but these boys love it.
Hunter
Hunter is growing up and changing so fast. He is very bright and learns quickly. He knows how to count to 30 and recognizes many numbers. He is fascinated with numbers and finds them everywhere. He likes to look at the clock and tell me what numbers he sees and what time it is. He loves learning and doing "activities." Hunter enjoys puzzles and has an incredible memory. Hunter loves legos and playing games. He likes to play planet attack (basically the WAR card game), Candy-land, and trouble. He is very competitive and likes to win. We have caught him putting the ice cream card in Candy-land on the top so he can win. We are working on being okay with loosing. Hah. Hunter loves going on walks, riding his bike, playing at "Mapleton beach," and playing at the park. Hunter has really enjoyed playing with Otie lately, and it has been fun to see them interact together.
Hunter makes friends easily. He attaches himself to people quickly and becomes everyone's best friend, regardless their age. Hunter enjoys playing and being with other people. He is very aware and sensitive of others. He frequently asks Dayton and I how our day was, how we are doing/feeling, and how things are going for us. He quickly knows when I am upset or not feeling well and tries to make it better. Hunter is very sweet and thoughtful. He enjoys spending time with family and adores his many aunts, uncles, and grandparents. When Dayton asked Hunter if he liked living in Logan or Mapleton better, Hunter replied, "I just like living with Grandma. I love Grandma Shirlene's house and Grandma Hunter's house." It seems he prefers living with my parents and spending time visiting grandparents than being with us! We laughed at that.
Hunter is a mini Dayton in every way. He loves to figure out how things work and enjoys working with Daddy on his many projects. Hunter also enjoys being my helper and loves to help cook, do laundry, and clean up. His new favorite chore is vacuuming the wood floor. He is a great helper.
Hunter's favorite foods are any typical American little boy- pizza, hamburgers, cereal, and chicken nuggets. He also likes tacos, meatballs, and lamb. He is actually a really good healthy eater too. He loves cucumbers, hummus, peas, and frequently requests a salad. He also loves mangos, blueberry bagels, bananas, yogurt, pineapple, green smoothies, melons, corn, blackberries, and spinach muffins. Hunter has a sweet tooth and loves chocolate chip cookies and ice cream. For a while, Hunter would get into the freezer when we weren't watching, grab the bag of cookie dough and carton of ice cream and go to town. It became a frequent habit for him to wake up before Dayton and I and are six in the morning, grab the ice cream (of course leaving the fridge/freezer wide open) and stuff his face as fast as he could before we realized what he was up to. This went on for a week. We locked up the fridge for a while and threatened to not let him have any ice cream or cookies the next time we made them. That did it and he isn't done it since, thank goodness. Although I will say it was rather entertaining to find Hunter in various places throughout the house eating ice cream. Hunter also loves strawberries and ate an entire container during one of his frantic rading the fridge episodes.
Hunter loves going to church and attending primary. He looks forward to it each week. It has been fun for him to learn more about the church and Jesus. He is very curious. We was stoked to listen to conference and to see and hear from the prophet. He knows many of the 12 apostles by name. He enjoys singing primary songs and participating in family night. He also reminds us to read the Book of Mormon together every night. What an amazing boy. Recently, his cousin Annie was baptized. We had been talking a lot about what that means. He was on a Home Depot run with Dayton. The lady at the check out asked him how old he was. He said, I'm three and a half (very proud of that fact). The lady then replied, "wow in just a few years, you can go to Kindergarten!" Hunter said, "Hmm, no, but guess what? When I turned 8, I get to be baptized!" She was quite shocked at his answer. It made Dayton and I chuckle, but glad he is already thinking about that.
Hunter is such a great older brother and always wants to be with Carter. Every morning he asks to play with Carter and is sad when Carter is taking a nap and he doesn't have a buddy to play with. I'm glad they are such great friends and enjoy being together.
We sure love our boys.
This is what I found one morning. Hunter opened up the fridge. . . left his chair there. . . and then proceeded to eat the leftover cookie dough from the night before. This is how I woke up to. . .
Sadly, Hunter stopped taking naps around his 3rd birthday, but still needs them. Sometimes it will be 5 o clock and we are getting ready for dinner and we find him in his room asleep. Of course he refused to sleep during nap time, but sometimes by the end of the day the kid is spent. I had been downstairs cleaning, Hunter was having quiet time in his room. I came upstairs to check on him and couldn't find him anywhere. . . then I found him asleep in my bed.
Hunter sure thinks he's funny putting on mom's boots.
Enjoying chocolate chia pudding.
Hunter's first day of primary! He LOVED it.
Hunter loves legos. Many mornings, he will get up and play with his legos until Dayton and I get up. He is an EARLY riser. One morning he wanted me to take a picture of the truck he had built by himself. He is great at looking at the instructions and making different things. What a little smartie pants.
... and we can never have a serious picture.
