We came home from Roosevelt and were playing in the backyard when we noticed a fire on the mountain. It was started by target shooting and quickly spread across the entire front of mountain. Several homes were excavated. Luckily, we weren't in the evacuation zone. It hasn't rained all summer and the dry conditions didn't help the fire. However, a storm came in that night- which was a tender mercy for sure. Usually we get canyon winds in the evening, but when a storm comes, its the only time the winds blow towards the mountain. This was a huge blessing and definitely helped contain the fire. Firefighters worked all night and were able to protect all of the homes up the canyon and close to the mountain. They got within 6 feet, but nothing burned. We were feeling grateful that the fire didn't spread down hobble creek Canyon. Our backyard slopes down into the river and canyon area so the fire could have gotten really close to us and spread fast. Just chalking it up for another 2020 win.
These were the views form our backyard down where we keep our bees.
This was the view from our front yard.
These were the next morning. It was overcast from the storm so it's hard to see how black the entire mountain really was.
Hunter's school got canceled the next day, not related to the fire. The waterlines had issues so they canceled school and Hunter and I spent the entire morning playing games.
