I wasn't feeling well and luckily Dayton stayed home from work that day. Carter was out jumping on the tramp when Dayton heard him crying. He wouldn't walk on it and even though he wasn't jumping with other kids and he didn't fall off, we were pretty sure it was broken. We had been done this road before. Dayton took Carter to insta care and got an x ray. Sure enough it was broken and it was the exact same break Hunter did last spring.
Unfortunately this happened at the beginning of the summer- just when it was starting to warm up. We had had such a cool spring, that we were really looking forward to warmer weather and swimming. But, our plans changed.
Carter was very scared and in a lot of pain. The first few days were the hardest. He wasn't in a hard cast yet, and any movement caused him to scream out in pain. I don't think anyone slept those first few days. Luckily, the hard cast help keep it stable and made our lives a little easier.
However, Carter wasn't able to put any weight on it for 4 weeks. It was a long month of carrying him around and helping him go to the bathroom and bathe. Luckily, Hunter was a great help and would push him in a stroller so I could carry Cooper. Needless to say, outings were not an easy task and trying to keep a toddler entertained without anything too active is a challenge.
I have the best friends in the world. When my high school friends heard about Carter's leg, they sent down a bunch of new toys for him to borrow. They also sent coloring books, crafts, and snacks. It made Carter's day and my day as well. It really helped to have new exciting things to play with while he wasn't mobile.
The breakfast tray in the recliner became Carter's second home and saved our lives.
